March 28, 2007: San Antonio, Texas.

Part of everyone's grade school education in this country includes a lesson on the Alamo. This phenomenon seems especially bizarre after visiting the site and re-learning about its historical significance, or rather its relative lack thereof. At least we can check that off the list of things to see and do.

The San Antonio River has flooded the city on several occasions and lots of time and money has been spent to dam it and create bypass channels . But folks here have always insisted on preserving the river's historic path through (or more precisely,
under) the center of town, and the Riverwalk is a charming, if a little humid, place to eat, drink, and exercise.

The River Walk has a wonderful selection of good restaurants. I enjoyed my visit to San Antonio very much. Perhaps it was the fact that we met up with good friends there, and enjoyed their company. I have to agree that the humidy factor is not a positive but unless you have to play golf it is tolerable.
